Westfield Police Talking With 'Person of Interest' in Attempted Child Luring on Kimball Ave.
Parents of an 8-year-old boy reported that the incident took place at noon on Monday, June 25.
The Westfield Police Department confirmed Tuesday morning that officers are talking with a person of interest in connection with an alleged attempted luring incident that took place at noon on Monday, June 25.
An 8-year-old boy was outside his home on the 600 block of Kimball Avenue when the alleged incident took place, according to Westfield Police Capt. Cliff Auchter. Auchter said the person of interest was driving a truck but he could not go into any more detail at this point in the investigation nor could he say if the boy was alone at the time.
The boy ran into his home and his parents reported the incident to Westfield police. Auchter said no information regarding what the person of interest may have said to the boy is being released at this time.
"An incident is under investigation and preliminary investigation does not indicate that this incident poses any danger to the public," Westfield Police Chief David Wayman said.
Auchter reminded parents to be diligent about children's safety.
