Fine wines were on the menu Sunday afternoon as the Woman's Club of Westfeld gathered for a quiet day to catch up and help their favorite charity.
The group's wine and cheese tasting drew a crowd to the American Legion Hall on North Avenue. Designed as a fundraiser for the group's signature charity, BRIDGES, attendees had the chance to taste six wines provided by CoolVines and sample various snacks and desserts.
According to Cynthia Neivert, the event's co-chairwoman, the group has a history of making sandwiches for BRIDGES, a homeless services non-profit based in Summit. She estimates that the sandwiches cost several hundred dollars a month to make and the fundraiser helps offset the costs of supplies and transporting the sandwiches.
"We make sandwiches every other Friday in the summer and once a month during the year," she said. "We do 200 each time. All of the funds are going to making sandwiches."
BRIDGES is a homeless services group which provides meals to the homeless in Manhattan and Newark. Vans from the group's Summit headquarters travel out on Friday evenings to provide food and other items to the homeless in those cities.
