Concerns about public safety dominated Tuesday evening's Town Council meeting as residents and firefighters addressed Mayor Andy Skibitsky and members of the Council regarding staffing levels in light of the recent three-alarm blaze that destroyed a home on Barchester Way.
Bill Lavin, President of NJ FMBA, and Westfield Fire Deparment Lt. Tim Brennan, both urged the Council to restore the department to more adequate levels before a human life is lost.
In Board of Education news, the Board is accepting applications from candidates to fill three three-year openings and one one-year term. The deadline to apply is June 5.
Gretchan Ohlig, who was appointed to the Board in January to fill the term of Julia Walker, announced her intention to seek a three-year term. Last week, Jane Clancy said, after six years on the Board, she will not seek re-election.
The BOE also addressed the upcoming bond referendum that would be used to fund roof replacements and a lighted turf field at Westfield High School.
