What happened this week in Westfield?
Allison Lowenstein, 21, a Westfield High School graduate, was jogging down Seven Lakes Drive west of the intersection of Lake Welch Drive in Harriman State Park between 5 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. Tuesday when a car hit her, then took off, the according to reports by the Times Herald-Record and Newsday. Lowenstein was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she remained in critical condition Thursday.
A dozen residents of the neighborhood surrounding Westfield High School met Wednesday evening to discuss their concerns regarding the proposed installation of a lighted turf field that, for many of them, would be, literally, in their backyard. Traffic, safety, lighting and expense all top the list of residents' issues with the proposed lighted, turf field.
