Westfield's Bamboo Shoots to Expand Offerings
First and second grade classrooms to be added for 2013-2014 school year
The following is a press release from Bamboo Shoots:
To better serve the bilingual Mandarin/English community, Bamboo Shoots isoffering the addition of a 1st & 2nd grade classroom for the 2013-2014 academic year! The addition of these grades will enable students to continue a rigorous Chinese and English academic program in a fun and supportive environment.
In addition to Bamboo Shoots' established preschool, kindergarten education and summer camp, our intensive after-school program for students 6 years of age and older provides work in Chinese and math using advanced textbooks and materials. This teaching experience provides us with the knowledge that our expansion forward in grade level will have a significant impact on our ability to prepare students for a lifetime of language and learning.
The school-wide curriculum includes Mandarin and English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, computers, fine arts and music, Suzuki-based violin instruction, physical education and the culture and traditions of China. Advanced work in math and reading is offered. Bamboo Shoots students take monthly field trips that connect our cross-discipline curriculum.
“Bamboo Shoots is an alternative for families who seek a individualized setting where students gain fluency in a second language as well as an exceptional education” Bamboo Shoots' director Danielle Marino added. “We’ve brought together outstanding teachers, an engaging hands-on curriculum, and created a school dedicated to future global citizens.”
