Westfield High School Parking Meeting Tonight
Th next public outreach meeting regarding high school parking will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Westfield High School Cafeteria B.
A public outreach meeting to discuss traffic and parking conditions around Westfield High School and Edison Intermediate School will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight at WHS's cafeteria B.
The meeting is the third in a series aimed at enhancing traffic safety and reducing parking issues in the Westfield High School neighborhood.
The Westfield Town Council and the Board of Education held meetings in March and June of 2011 during which residents voiced their concerns and grievances over current conditions.
In an email, Fourth Ward Councilman Keith Loughlin, vice chair of the public safety and parking committee, said, "During the meeting, our traffic engineer (Gordon Meth) will discuss proposed solutions to improving the safety and quality of life of our neighborhood. We anticipate this will be the final public meeting and it is extremely important that you attend to voice your opinions."
The meeting is open to all.
Do you have a solution to the parking and traffic situation? If so, tell us in the comments section.

It would be nice if the plan would be released in advance; that way, we can have more informed and better thought out opinions to express.

What's the problem? We're talking about young, healthy students. Most should be walking/riding a bike to school. Do we really need more traffic around town anyway?

probably have too many people shouting before the speakers could describe the plan

I also hope that charging kids for decals to park at the school is also part of the plan. Funds can go to subsidize other activities, parking improvement plans, clean-up, etc. Depending on the cost, it might discourage some who do not need to drive.

I agree, It's complete nonsense! Parking is terrible by the HS.
And this is suppose to be the last meeting about this? When was the last one??

Re: the proposal to evenly distribute parking among all the streets, and provide more parking on school property -- residents have been requesting these changes from the Council for 7 years. It took all this time, and a professional study, for them to come to the conclusion that these very obvious solutions are good ideas? In response to Luis' question -- the first parking meeting was held last Spring. I believe yesterday's was the third. So it took an entire year for the Council to have 3 meetings and present a study, in response to countless years of resident concerns and complaints. The wheels of progress certainly move slowly in Westfield.....at least for the South side of town. I will be interested to see if any changes will even be put in place for September 2012, or if YET another school year will pass by before something tangible is accomplished by our elected officials.

Firstly, the students should be more active (ie walking, biking, etc)
Secondly, there needs to be a stop sign on the rahyway side of rahwya/dorian. Have you ever tried to make a turn from dorian onto rahway? the drivers headed north all appear to be taking the curves like the autobahn!
Thirdly, where DOES all the money go? If not for the roof, the lockers and the rest of school are older than I am... and my taxes are going up.... hmmm
smells fishy
