Hi’s Eye, the weekly student produced newspaper at Westfield High School, has been awarded a 2012 gold medal from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the highest honor for school newspapers from the Association.  

Hi’s Eye was judged on both the print and web editions. One of the national judges commented, “The wonderful diversity in topics covered in both the print and digital editions offers something for every reader.” 

This year's Hi’s Eye staff -- partially pictured here -- is made up of 26 students, with three print rotations and two web rotations. The students publish 26 print issues and an additional 8 issues on the website, for a total of 34 issues. 

Students also comprise a small business staff for managing the program and taking care of advertising, which supports the printing costs. Westfield High School teachers, Rosemary DiBattista and Nicole Scimone, who are co-advisors of Hi’s Eye, stated that they are very proud of the work that their staff puts into the Hi's Eye every week, and this win is well-deserved.
