Washington and Wilson Teachers Wage Volleyball Battle to Combat Cancer
Game held to support Kelly Finkel.
Wilson School students stormed the court Thursday night after a dominate performance by their teachers on the volleyball court. The Wilson Wizzards beat the Washington Wildcats in a competitive game that had both schools cheering at times.
The event hit close to home this year as Franklin School Elementary teacher Kelly Finkel was recently diagnosed with cancer. Tickets were $5 at the door, all proceeds were being donated to a cancer charity in honor of Finkel. Washington teachers have traditionally battled another Westfield school in a charity volleyball game, with Jefferson being the 2010 opponent.
The Westfield High School gym was jammed with close to a 1000 parents, students and faculty cheering on their schools and looking to raise funds. Charity volleyball has become a tradition in Westfield, with the annual Washington game and the now annual Play for Pink volleyball game in October to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
