Two Westfield Teens Taken Into Custody in Connection With Car Burglaries

Anyone who believes items may have been taken from their vehicle between the evening of Aug. 21 and the morning of Aug. 22, should call police at 908-789-4000.

Two males, ages 16 and 17, both of Westfield, were taken into custody in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 22 for burglary and theft from motor vehicles, according to the Westfield Police Department.

Westfield Police Capt. Cliff Auchter said the department received a call at approximately 12:30 a.m. from a Columbus Avenue resident who reported hearing a car alarm. The resident also saw individuals running from that area. Officers responding to the scene observed two juveniles walking on Sycamore Street and detained them.

"The subsequent investigation resulted in the two juveniles being taken into custody for burglary and theft," Auchter said. "They were transported to headquarters and released to a responsible party."

Auchter said more property was recovered than can be accounted for from just the one vehicle. He asked residents who believe they may have had items removed from their cars between the evening of Aug. 21 and the early morning of Aug. 22 to call the station at 908-789-4000.

Auchter said after the complaints are signed, the case will be assigned to family court.

Good job. Wonder if it is just rich bored kids. Knew someone in college that liked to steal cars for "fun". Would take them from the mall and then after the joy ride, park them on the other side of the mall. Came from a well to do family and her father was actually chief of police in her town!

Westfield police do NOTHING to proactively prevent crimes, etc. I was dining in Westfield and there were literally 50 idiotic teens blocking storefronts cursing and spitting at passing customers. So many people were embarrassed. The police were called and they did nothing. The Westfield police are letting that town go downhill. It's absolutely disgraceful. No wonder there are SO MANY empty storefronts. What a bunch of morons. Anyone looking into shopping or investing in Westfield should run the other way until this town gets a reality check.

The Westfield cops do nothing because they are Kasko Kronies and take their cues from him. He was a great role model for them. Also, if they intervened their breaks from Vicki's Diner would be cut short.
