Two Westfield Salons Offer Cuts for Cancer Sunday
Viva Glam and Utopia Salon will host a day of haircare to benefit cancer research.
Get a haircut and fight cancer at the same time on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Westfield's Viva Glam Salon, located at 1117 South Ave W., is hosting its third annual 'Cuts for Cancer' from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from the day, including tips, are donated to the American Cancer Society. Salon co-owner Lisa Ramirez explained that many of the women who work at Viva Glam have had family members who've battled cancer and so each has been affected by the disease.
"We decided we were going to fight back," said Ramirez. "Because each of us had been touched by a different form of cancer, we decided to donate to a general charity."
The stylist said the salon has had a "wonderful" response to the fundraising effort.
"Last year we raised $2,200 and the year before that $2,300," she said. "People cook for us so we can offer finger foods and cookies and cupcakes throughout the day. We also raffle baskets that are donated. The girls donate their time. It's a wonderful event."
Utopia Salon & Day Spa, located at 349 East Avenue South, is committed to be part of the fight to end cancer. This event is the first of many the salon stylists will hold to make their voices heard as they "say no to cancer."
"We are offering haircuts for a $25 donation which will go to Susan G. Komen For A Cause Greater NYC," said salon employee Bettina Rago.
Utopia will also be offering hair extentions, raffles, treats, entertainment, music, and fun for kids.
