Tonight's Board of Ed Agenda: Technology Initiative, Bond Referendum and More

Meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in Roosevelt School cafeteria.

The public meeting of the Westfield Board of Education will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the cafeteria of Roosevelt School.

The meeting's agenda will include a report on the district’s technology initiative. At a June meeting of the BOE, Chief Technology Officer Brian Auker said both the district wireless project and the accompanying network security was expected to be in place by Sept. 1. In addition, dozens of new laptops and iPads for students of all grade levels were to be purchased for the 2012-2013 school year.

Also up for discussion is the upcoming bond referendum. During a special election to be held on Monday, Sept. 24, Westfield residents will have an opportunity to vote for or against a $16.9 million bond which would fund roof repairs ($13.6 million) and a lighted turf field ($3.3 million) to be installed at Westfield High School

The Westfield Public School District created a website, www.westfieldnjk12.org/bond2012 to provide additional details regarding the referendum.

A second meeting to discuss the upcoming special election will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in Roosevelt School's auditorium.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24.

For more information about tonight's agenda, visit the link provided on the Board's website. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

I hope all of the angry posters on this board actually show up and hear all the facts in person. So much misinformation out here in the virtual world. I for one will be there and hope others come out too-

I can't believe there is this much agnst over the turf - It amounts to $28 or less per year on the average assessed home. Are we really going to take a stand over a few cups of Starbucks??

Come on folks - the kids deserve useable fields.

VOTE YES.

yeah, what the hell, a few cups here and a few cups there. its only a couple bucks on top of the sewer tax and the fees students pay to play sports in middle school and high school. just another way around the governor's 2% tax cap on property taxes. go ahead and vote yes and show the board how willing you are to pay extra on top of your property taxes to get them out of the financial mess they are in. NOT ME. its roof repair and turf field now whats next, float another bond in a few years to build more classrooms when schools are bursting at the seams?

Hey Iwill.. You somehow think they should not grow the education budget when there are a far greater number of kids in the schools? Maybe WF needs to be more like China and limit the number of kids to 2 per family???

If you don't want to support a competitive school system, why don't you move to Elizabeth so that you can have your schools paid for by Westfielders?

We need e roofs, we need the fields, we need the teachers, - until this current baby boom gets through the system, increased costs are a fact of life.

Just move out of WF.

All this bellyaching and 4 people show up at the Board of Ed Meeting tonight- I came to support the bond (and learn more) and was shocked to see that clearly the no vote is all just Patch talk- its almost as bad as the No signs- Who can read those? You would think with all this effort someone would have designed a better sign....

What was the point of attending tonight? The issues are defined and the question is set to be decided on 9/24. Attending tonight was pointless, all that is left to do is vote.
