The Week Ahead: Restaurant Week, Free Self-Defense Classes and Roosevelt School Honors Black History Month

What's happening this week in Westfield?

 

Monday:

Restaurant Week is underway. Take this opportunity to sample a new eatery or enjoy an old favorite for a fixed price.

Karate N Motion is offering a free trial in Krav Maga self-defense for men, women and college-bound teens. The class runs from 8 to 9:15 p.m.

Tuesday:

The Presbyterian Church in Westfield hosts a weekly 'Searching for Work' group in the church's Jim Cole Room on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. The group is for those searching for work and membership is open to everyone in the Westfield.

The Youth & Family Counseling Service is offering a program for teens where high school-aged members meet each Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m at the agency.

First United Methodist Church is hosting a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations will benefit the FUMC Scholarship Fund. Enjoy food, fellowship, and music. Donations are welcome.

Wednesday:

The homework helpers will be at the Westfield Memorial Library  from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Thursday:

Roosevelt Intermediate School will host its fifth annual Black History month assembly featuring guest speaker ABC Eyewitness News anchor Lori Stokes and The Newark Boys Chorus. The event begins at 8:30 a.m.

The next Justice Cafe meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Rockn' Joes. This month's topic is Poverty. Bring friends and join in some lively conversation.

At 8 p.m. Karate N Motion offers Krav Maga Self Defense for women only. For a limited time, classes are free. Sign up is available through the website or by calling Jason at 732-684-0929.

There will be a Library Board Meeting held in the Program Room of the Westfield Memorial Library at 8 p.m.

Friday:

The Westfield Recreation Department will present The Night Place. This is a dance, open gym, game room, and movie night for Intermediate School aged students starting at 7 p.m.at Edison Intermediate School. The fee for this event is $5 payable at the door. Adult volunteers are needed to help with this event.

Westfield Recreation also presents THE “UNDERGROUND” (a.k.a- The Teen Center) on Friday nights. From 7 to 11 p.m., the event is held literally, underground, in the basement of the Municipal Building Recreation Center. Teens can play a game of pool at one of the three pool tables, keep their ping-pong skills in check, play some video games, watch a movie, or listen to their favorite music.

Just Bead Yourself is offering ladies a night out and chance to enjoy a 20-minute massage, chocolate fondue and an opportunity to create their own bracelet, necklace or earrings. Held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Central Avenue shop, the event costs $49 per person and includes the massage, chocolate fondue, and jewelry. Registration is required.
