The Week Ahead: Art, Meetings and a Musical

What's happening this week in Westfield?

 

Monday:

The Westfield Memorial Library presents 'The History of the Aztecs & Spaniards at 10 a.m. See the beautiful, brightly painted history of the Aztecs and Spanish people who comprise what is Mexico today. The artist is Jose Martinez-O.

Join Studio Fit and ViaNutrition at 10:15 a.m. at Studio Fit, 728 South Avenue West in Westfield (next to Galaxy Nails) for a demonstration and tasting of Green Juice for energy and health and smoothies for post-workout. This complimentary tasting demo will be 45-minutes in length and give you some ideas to kick-start your summer energy and workouts. Recipes and tips on how to create delicious smoothies at home.  Don’t miss this event to give you the basics of “super-health” at home or on-the go!

There will be a Planning Board Meeting at 7:30 p.m. held in the Council Chambers in the Municipal Building. All are welcome.

Tuesday:

Today is the deadline for Westfield Board of Education candidates to file their petitions. Nominating petitions can be obtained at the Interim Board Secretary’s office at 302 Elm Street, Westfield. The deadline to file the petition is 4 p.m. Three three-year terms are open as well as one one-year term. 

The Board will meet at 8 p.m. at the Board of Education Building. 

The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a complimentary coffee/tea and light breakfast at 8 a.m at Turning Point for business professionals from the surrounding towns for networking purposes.

The Town Council will also meet at 8 p.m at the Municipal Building. 

Wednesday:

At 7 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library presents the Health Benefits of Culinary Herbs and Spices by Lorraine M. Harwelik. Many of the herbs and spices that our parents and our ancestors used in meal preparation did more than just preserve the foods and make them taste better: traditional herbs and spices actually helped people to become and stay healthy.  Lorraine M. Harwelik is a dual certified clinical herbalist, licensed New Jersey educator, and registered yoga teacher.

Thursday:

At 8 p.m. Karate N Motion offers Krav Maga Self Defense for women only. For a limited time, classes are free. Sign up is available through the website or by calling Jason at 732-684-0929.

Friday:

The Presbyterian Church in Westfield will host its bible study meeting from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Westfield Recreation presents THE “UNDERGROUND” (a.k.a- The Teen Center) on Friday nights. From 7 to 11 p.m., the event is held literally, underground, in the basement of the Municipal Building Recreation Center. Teens can play a game of pool at one of the three pool tables, keep their ping-pong skills in check, play some video games, watch a movie, or listen to their favorite music.

The family-friendly, high-seas musical 'How I Became a Pirate' presented by Hedgehog & Feather Theatre Co. will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 8, and at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 in the Parish Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

The theatre company has also put together its first-ever sensory-sensitive performance set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 for children with special needs and their families. Hedgehog & Feather's website contains a printable social story that children can view before attending to prepare for the show. Admission for adults is $15 and $10 for children. Hedgehog & Feather is using online ticket agent Brown Paper Tickets to allow attendees to purchase their tickets with ease.
