The Week Ahead: Meetings and Valentine's Day

What's happening in Westfield this week?

 

Monday:

The homework helpers will be at the Westfield Memorial Library  from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday:

It's Valentine's Day. For those seeking romantic inspiration, Patch asked residents to share their thoughts on some of the sweetest spots around town.

The Presbyterian Church in Westfield hosts a weekly 'Searching for Work' group in the church's Jim Cole Room on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. The group is for those searching for work and membership is open to everyone in the Westfield.

The Youth & Family Counseling Service is offering a program for teens where high school-aged members meet each Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m at the agency.

Wednesday:

The Westfield Memorial Library is pleased to present a new kind of storytelling event called a Story Slam on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

Greater Union County Association of Realtors presents 'Free Seminar: How to Appeal NJ Property Taxes and Win!' at 7 p.m. This seminar –- hosted by Peter Jordan of Prudential New Jersey Properties -- will help attendees determine if their property values are overassessed and explain what is needed in order to successfully challenge their assessment in their township.

The Board of Adjustment will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.

The Westfield Parent Teacher Council-Special Education Committee presents How to Help Your Child Become a Better Writer at 7:30 p.m. at Edison Intermediate School. Dr. Francie Matthews, Director of Academic Associates will discuss the challenges and frustrations of writing encountered by students. The presentation is geared towards parents of 2nd-8th grade general and special education students and will provide a toolbox of strategies to support the different aspects of writing and help their child gain confidence as a writer.

Thursday:

Jeffrey's of Westfield is hosting an evening of live music from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. with singer/songwriter/guitarist Vaughn Henry Smith. Smith is a veteran live musician and professional sound engineer currently employed by Madison Square Garden. He performs original material as well as folk and classic rock favorites from musicians such as James Taylor and the Eagles.

The Board of Adjustment will hold a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building to hear and consider an appeal for bulk and use variance relief from requirements of the Westfield Land Use Ordinance as international retailer Urban Outfitters would like to move into the vacant building at 154 E. Broad St.

Friday:

The Presbyterian Church in Westfield will host its bible study meeting from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m

The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church will present author Lars Brownworth who will discuss his book, 'The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization' at 7:30 p.m. in the Bouras Center. The event is free. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
