Visitors from Westfield and other towns are welcome to attend. October 30th will see a celebratory luncheon for the Garden Club of Westfield’s 90th anniversary to be held at Echo Lake Country Club. Interested parties for the September meeting or Garden Club in general are welcome to call Jane Curtis, Co-President, at 908-232-5795.
Seven containers, part of their continuing Town of Westfield beautification project, located at the crossroads of Elm & East Broad Streets are planted, maintained and watered year-round by the Garden Club of Westfield members for all to enjoy. This dedicated group of active members plants seasonal flowers three times a year and decorates the trainers with greenery for the winter season. During the summer, two members bring water daily to all of the containers to ensure the health and beauty of the plantings. For over 17 years the Garden Club of Westfield has continued to share this community of Gardening with residents and visitors alike.
Since 1947 the Club has displayed weekly flowers at the Westfield Memorial Library. Begun as a memorial to those who served in World War II, active members contribute a flower or greenery display 52 weeks a year. Flower arrangers over the July/August period are Rosemary Shire, Lecia DeHaven, Phyllis Cassetti, Rosemary Bauer, Ruth Paul, Fran Linn, Connie Muirhead, Teri Teglash, Jo Sheehan, Sally Brown, Elizabeth Hetherington, Betty Kopf & Lorraine Kolibas. September Library flowers will be designed by Elaine Junguenet, Lecia DeHaven, Lorraine Kolibas and Debby Burslem. Be sure and stop by to take a peek at the display next time you visit the Library.
The membership also plants trees in Westfield to commemorate Arbor Day, maintains The Blue Star By-Way Garden at Tamaques Park, several gardens within Mindowaskin Park and decorates the Westfield Municipal Building with wreaths every December. The Garden Club of Westfield’s latest project is the installation of a perennial boarder at the Town of Westfield’s Reeve House, located on Mountain Avenue. This was accomplished with assistance from Craig Stock, owner of C.R. Stock Landscaping located in Westfield, NJ.
