School Resumes Thursday for WHS, Edison and Roosevelt Students
Last Updated 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2012
The Westfield Public Schools will operate on the following schedule on Thursday, November 8, 2012:
Westfield High School – OPEN – 9:30 AM – 2:45 PM
ALL Elementary schools and Lincoln School – CLOSED.
WHS, EIS and RIS students should bring their lunch to school.
Buses will be running, but expect slower than usual service.
Please read the above carefully, as only the High School and two intermediate schools are open on Thursday. It’s a start.
We know that it is snowing and that the conditions Thursday morning will not be ideal for travelling to school, but based on current projections, and assuming we all take our time and be courteous to other drivers and those walking to and from school, we will all be fine.
This decision was made based upon safety evaluations of the Westfield Chief of Police and detailed discussions with the Chief, the Mayor and the Town Administrator. While the goal is to get all schools open, the requirement is to do so safely. The opening of the High School and Intermediate Schools is based upon the progress made on certain primary roads in Town. We are hopeful that similar progress can be made on more of the side roads leading to the elementary schools in the short term. We know it is not the ideal solution.
A decision will be made regarding Friday, November 9, 2012 sessions no later than 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Elm Street Administrative offices remain without power. Jefferson Elementary (600 Boulevard) remains open as a warming center for those without heat.
Board of Education fields at the High School, Edison and Roosevelt are now open. All other school fields remain closed.
