Rescue Squad Ambulance Hits Building

Minor damage to ambulance, no structural damage to building.

A Westfield Rescue Squad ambulance hit a North Avenue building Friday afternoon during a medical call, causing minor damage to the ambulance.

According to a fire department source, rig 51, struck a building at 215 North Avenue West at 4;30 p.m. Friday afternoon while on a medical call. The accident caused a glass window to shatter and the awning to be ripped off the building. There were no injuries.

A second ambulance was dispatched to take the patient to the hospital. It is not known what the emergency medical call was about.

The fire department checked the structural integrity of the building, which appeared to be secure and the damage to the ambulance was described as "very minor."

Reid Edles, the squad president, said he will look into the cause of the accident and repairs will be made to the ambulance.
