Prepare to Decorate: Y's Men's Club Tree Sale Begins

All that remains of Thanksgiving is the leftovers so it's time to think about that Christmas tree.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas—especially at the playing field at the intersection of Elm and Orchard streets where the Y's Men's Club is holding its annual Christmas tree sale.

Tom Baker, a Y's Men's Club member, said since its inception in 1953, the club has raised over $2,000,000 for local charities. The tree sale is the club's largest fundraiser.

"We typically sell 1,200 trees between Thanksgiving and Christmas every year, which raises about $40,000 for local youth clubs and charities," Baker said. "As an aside, the Y’s Men’s Club is the only organization in town who helps to physically maintain and improve the Elm Street playing field."

With approximately three tractor-trailer loads per year, the number of trees sold by the Y’s Men would fill MetLife stadium, according to the club.

In addition to a wide variety of fraser and douglas firs as well as balsams, table tops—mini trees perfect for the front porch or hallway—are also available.

Prices start at $15 for table tops and $50 for full-sized trees, Baker said.

"Remember this is a charity fundraiser so it’s a little more expensive than Home Depot," he noted.

The sale begins Saturday, Nov. 26 and runs through Friday, Dec. 23. Monday through Friday, trees can be purchased from 3 to 9 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, the sale is a full-day event, running from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
