Pothole Watch

A look at potholes around town.

The several days of extreme cold over the last week means more than frostbitten noses across Westfield. The cold causes potholes to develop around town.

Town Engineer Kris McAloon said the Department of Public Works has been monitoring roadways townwide in order to fill potholes as they develop. He said the department has been using a cold patch to temporarily fill the potholes until a permanent patch can put into place. A permanent patch cannot be put into until consecutive days of above freezing weather.

Westfield Patch is doing occasional updates of potholes in town which could cause damage to a vehicle if hit. Here are some found on Monday morning. Potholes were found on the 800 block of Summit Avenue, the 400 block of Roaonke Road, the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Roanoke Road and on Elmer Street between East Broad Street and Lenox Avenue. Several of the Elmer Street potholes have been in place for a few weeks while others are new.
