Police Blotter: Thefts Reported at Edison School; Car Burglaries Continue
The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Nov. 14: A student at Edison Intermediate School reported that someone removed his iPhone4 from his locker. It is valued at $200.
A resident of the 400 block of Edgewood Avenue reported that someone removed a Rockwell Sonicrafter 21 piece multi-tool kit, valued at $119, from his motor vehicle. The vehicle was parked on the street at the time of the theft.
Justin I. Austin, 22, of Roselle was picked up at the Linden Police Department on an outstanding Westfield warrant in the amount of $190.
A business on the 600 block of West North Avenue reported the theft of a bottle of perfume, valued at $89. The suspect fled in a dark-colored sedan.
Nov. 15: The owner of a business in Kearny reported that his company completed work for a resident of Westfield but was never paid for the job.
A resident of Canterbury Road reported that someone removed $3,785 from his bank account without his authorization.
Kevin Brown, 30, of Selden, N.Y. was arrested and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of suspected marijuana after a motor vehicle stop on the 200 block of Clark Street. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released.
A resident of Stevens Avenue reported that someone opened up a credit card in his name without his authorization and proceeded to charge $1,479.
Nov. 16: A student of Edison Intermediate School reported that someone removed his iPhone4f, valued at $200, from his locker.
Nov. 17: A resident of Bradford Avenue reported that his 2006 Hyundai was removed from the 600 block of West North Avenue.
A gold purse was found at the south-side train station and turned over to police.
Nov. 18: A resident of the 1400 block of Boulevard reported that someone entered his unlocked motor vehicle and removed a pair of prescription sunglasses, valued at $200, and approximately $6 in coins.
A resident of the 1000 block of Boulevard reported that someone entered his unlocked motor vehicle and removed approximately $2 in coins, along with a pair headphones.
A business on the 100 block of Elm Street reported that someone removed a bottle of perfume valued at $155.
Nov. 20: Westfield police officers arrested Zahir Ford, 30, of Elizabeth on an outstanding Westfield warrant at Elizabeth police headquarters. Ford was committed to Union County jail after being unable to post bail in the amount of $1,563. Ford's court appearance is pending.
A resident of the 100 block of Harrison Avenue reported a burglary to a motor vehicle parked at the residence. The owner/victim happened upon the suspect rummaging through the passenger compartment of the vehicle. After being confronted by the victim, the suspect fled the area on foot in a northbound direction of Harrison Avenue. The suspect was described as a 5'5", 140 lb male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans. Responding police units were unsuccessful in locating the suspect who made off with $40.
A resident of the 700 block of Prospect Street reported a burglary to a motor vehicle. The owner /victim confronted a male suspect who had unlawfully entered the unlocked vehicle and fled the scene on foot in a northbound direction on Prospect Street after being discovered. The suspect was described as a juvenile male approximately 5’4", thin build, short buzz cut hair and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with an earring in the left ear. At this time, no items appear to have been taken from the vehicle. A search of the area was unsuccessful in locating the suspect.
