What celebration will be held for the kids who didn't want or were unable to get a date or want to spend the big bucks for this HS right of passage?

I didn't attend my prom, for a variety of reasons, and I'm not sorry that I missed it. I went to the after parties.
I don't see the prom as 'exclusive' and I'm not sure why anyone would. There isn't a need to attend, it isn't a requirement. Some may think it's a 'rite of passage', but I'd say it's a last chance to something big with all your classmates. If that's what you're in for - go for it. If not, don't worry about it.

Throwing or attending a graduation party is always an alternative. Much more affordable and offers the same "one last hoorah!"

You dont need a date to attend Prom. Totally acceptable to attend with friends. Kids chip in and share the cost of a limo, it is a once in a lifetime event. Somehow, parents manage to afford this event. On a side note, able body students can work part time and help parents pick up the cost of attendance. Now, that is a bright idea!!!

The biggest problem that I have with WHS prom, like so many around the country, is the pressure it puts on kids to HAVE TO attnd with a "date". Why? Tickets are sold for a couple, the cheesy parting gift (cheap frame) is to remember your "date", etc., etc.
The culture should be changed so the default is come by YOURSELF, celebrate and have fun. Of course, if you're dating someone or you want to bring somebody with you that's cool too. The message should be: We want as many students to come with as little pressure as possible......not the other way around!
One can argue that there is no reason someone can't come alone since there are only 2 slow dances that nobody does anyway. But that's exactly the point!
A simple solution to a growing problem that lessens anxiety, fear of rejection and related stress, exclusivity, facebook chatter, and much more......and the right and sensible thing to show that Westfield is truly a caring community!

Many students did come without dates. I saw groups of four or more guys and three or more girls who arrived without escorts. Tickets could be purchased individually for $70 per person.

Each had problems before-hand. I interviewed them when I was there!

How many photos did the Patch and other local press post of students who attended without a date?
