'Oh the Places You'll Go' When RIS Presents 'Seussical the Musical'

Performances begin Friday, March 8.

Even if you’ve never uttered the words “I do not like green eggs and ham,” the Roosevelt Intermediate School Theatre department, with a cast of 51, has cooked up a treat that will certainly appeal to your tastes.

'Seussical the Musical' is directed by Annie Brzozowski, choreographed by Nicole Amadeo and musically directed by Karen Romero and Sabino Losco. This musical extravaganza is filled with toe-tapping tunes.  'Seussical' borrows its plot directly from the characters and occurrences in various Dr. Seuss books. The result is a show that takes the audience, of all ages, on an unpredictable ride.

Leading the audience through the musical twists and turns is Dr. Seuss’ most known character, the Cat in the Hat, played by Alexandra Jackman. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton (Duncan Cook), an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including JoJo (Lauren Singer), a Who child who is always getting in trouble for thinking too many "thinks."

Horton's attention to the speck of dust and his "loitering" care of Mayzie LaBird's (Kimmi Zimmerman) egg has elicited taunting and accusations from the rest of the animal kingdom, except for Gertrude McFuzz (Meagan O’Connell), who longs for his attention, and JoJo, whose "thinks" save them all in the end.
