Five Years Since Governor McGreevey's Resignation

Anniversary of speech where former governor stunned the nation.

Five years ago today, Gov. Jim McGreevey announced his resignation from office moments after announcing that he was a "gay American." In the five years since the resignation, the former governor and his ex-wife, former First Lady Dina Matos, have both relocated to Union County and have continued to be in and out of the news. Both have written books, appeared on "Oprah" and participated in a contentious divorce and child custody trial. Westfield Patch talked with residents gathered downtown Tuesday night to hear their thoughts on the day that shocked the nation and turned more attention to the Garden State's politics.
