Downtown streets were abuzz for lively jazz festival.

Perhaps Marlene VerPlanck said it best Tuesday night when asked how Westfield's Sweet Sounds Jazz Festival differs from other venues she has played recently,

"Beautiful crowds, being outside in this perfect weather make for a great night" was her response.

It seems most people downtown Tuesday night would not disagree with her.

The streets were packed with residents enjoying the various jazz bands around town.  Local restaurants expanded their outdoor seating  areas to accomodate the large crowds. The Glenn Alexander Trio on the corner of Est Broad and North Ave. attracted a large group with their extended jams.  One local resident claimed he had "the best spot in town" as he sat back and enjoyed the tunes.

The Gordon James band were across town in front of the First Baptist Church on Elm Street.  Their funky contemporary jazz riffs were the source of much enjoyment from the fans on the lawn.

Marlene VerPlanck's sultry vocals filled the air in front of the Banana Republic on Central Avenue.  Her fans filled the provided seats on the street, making themselves comfortable to enjoy her entire  set.

It was a busy Tuesday night for local restaurants and businesses as people took advantage of the pristine weather conditions.
