Check Your Sausage! A Springfield Meat Manufacturer's Products are being Recalled

Thousands of pounds of Applegate chicken and apple sausage produced by Schmalz's European Provisions are being sent back to the plant

The meat products produced by a Springfield company is the subject of a USDA food recall.

Schmalz's European Provisions, based in Springfield, is recalling approximately 8,424 pounds of chicken and apple sausage that may contain small pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday.

Twelve-ounce vacuum packages of "Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage" with "Use or Freeze By 03/17/13" on each package are being recalled.

The recalled product bears the establishment number "P-5411" inside the USDA mark of inspection, FSIS said in a statement. The products were produced on January 24, 2013, and were sold in retail stores nationwide and through limited internet sales in New Jersey.

The problem was discovered after the company received three consumer complaints, but there have been no reports of injuries at this time, FSIS said.

Anyone concerned about an injury from consumption of these products should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Anyone with questions about the recall should contact Gina Asoudegan, Public Affairs Specialist or Gerry Clarkson, Consumer Affairs Specialist at 800-587-5858.

I would say that people who eat sausage are not overly concerned about what goes into their bodies.

I am not sure that this is the most appropriate title of an article that follows the reported arrest of the kiddie porn gang. Only in Springfield, on back to back days these two events would occur. I never knew there was even a sausage manufacturer in town, but then again who knew about the kiddie porn gang.

Lucky for me I only buy kosher hot dogs and dont eat this plastic sausage LOL. Of course who knows what does into any of this stuff? i had read somewhere that in some cases sawdust was put into some hot dogs. I cant say if it was by design or just a manufacturers defect.

Officer Rod ~ first of all, the sausage in question was chicken and apple; no pork. Second, the word "goyim" is plural; you can be a goy, but not a goyim.
