Brief: Bagger Wins Figure Skating Bronze

Union Catholic senior to compete internationally.

Westfield resident Kate Bagger, a senior at Union Catholic High School, recently won a bronze medal in the final event of the 2011 U.S. figure skating championships.

Bagger competes as a member of the Lexettes synchronized skating team, which is based in Lexington, Mass. The bronze medal finish allows the team to represent the United States in international competitions for the 2011-2012 season. The national team is part of the U.S. Figure Skating Association's Team USA.

This is the second time Bagger has been a part of Team USA, for whom she competed for in Austria in January, winning a bronze medal.

Bagger is a first year member of the Lexettes and has been figure skating for seven years, according to a press release issued by Union Catholic. She is the founder of the Union Catholic Figure Skating Club.

"Skating on the Hayden teams and the Lexettes with their tradition and history of success is such an amazing experience," Bagger said in a statement released by Union Catholic. "To them win a U.S. Figure Skating medal and represent the United States in international competition against some of the best in the world feels like a dream. There were certainly a lot of sacrifices with long hard practices in cold rinks and travel that is tiring, but it's all worth itwhen we have a chance to represent the U.S. Figure Skating Association on Team USA."
