In a press release from the Westfield Area Y:
The Westfield Area Y participated in “record-breaking” global swim event at the Main Y facility on June 14th. There were 43 community swimmers of all ages who took part of The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ to help break the Guinness World Record. The whistle blew promptly at 11 a.m. Participants swam until the sound of the whistle at 11:30 a.m. The 43 swimmers were officially recorded and included as part of this amazing, life-saving, Guinness World Record ™ setting event and help prevent drowning. Tragically, drowning remains the second leading cause of injury-related death of children ages 1-14. The event concluded with a drawing for two fun-filled summer swim baskets.
