Mountainside Mayor Robert Viglianti, 68, a Westfield native passed away on Oct. 11 following a battle with cancer.
Mayor Viglianti graduated from Westfield High School in 1958 and was the founder of the Westfield Brace Company. He was first elected mayor of Mountainside in 1987 and was reelected every four years since, taking the oath of office as the borough's chief executive for the sixth time in 2008. Mayor Viglianti previously served nine years as a councilman in the borough.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, his children Scott and Kristin, and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home on Springfield Avenue. A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on East Broad Street with burial following at Fairview Cemetery.
